David Clarke

David Clarke - Chairman

David has significant experience, at Chair and CEO level in Health, IT and Biotechnology. David comes from a background in engineering, finance, marketing and sales with previous positions in the health, steel and food industries. For the five years prior to joining Neuren, David was Chief Executive Officer of CMDHB Ltd, one of the leading clinical and research centres and HMOs in New Zealand.

In addition to his current role as CEO of Neuren, an ASX list Biotechnology company, David is also Chair of three privately held, high-growth IT & diagnostic companies and was inaugural Chair of New Zealand Health IT Cluster, a 23-company organisation. David is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, a member of the Royal Society, a member of the NZ Institute of Directors and a trustee for several charities.


David Ryan

On completion of his PhD from the Australian National University in 1971, David spent three years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Operations Research at the UK Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell in England. He then took up lecturing at the University of Auckland in 1975, and now holds the position of Professor of Operations Research. David is also Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland and an Adjunct Professor at the Danish Technical University in Copenhagen.

David has been the force behind the development of optimization methods for crew scheduling at Air New Zealand, as well as conducting research and consulting through a wide range of industries, and has been internationally recognised as an expert in Operations Research through numerous awards. Ian McCrae

Ian McCrae

Ian McCrae founded Orion Systems in 1993, a company now with 200 staff members and operating in four continents. Orion has introduced its health integration software to every major market and exports to more than 20 countries. During this time, Orion has won several awards for its efforts, including commendations for export success, culminating in being named the New Zealand Hi-Tech Company of the Year for 2001.

In 2002 Ian was a member of the New Zealand Government's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Taskforce, formed to identify ways to boost the sector's economic contribution. He spearheaded the formation of New Zealand's Health IT Cluster, a group of 25 companies collaborating to promote New Zealand's unique software solutions overseas, increase the country's export sales and introduce new jobs to the local market.

Before founding Orion, Ian was a senior telecommunications consultant for Clearfield Consulting Ltd. Prior to his work at Clearfield, Ian worked for Ernst & Young designing corporate networks. Ian has also worked as a product manager at Imagineering Micro Distributors in New Zealand, a senior business analyst for the London Stock Exchange and as a scientist at the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
